Keeping Texans healthy is critical for a thriving state. Rep. Goodwin knows ensuring Texans have access to quality, affordable healthcare is essential, as is the ability to access the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare.

Accessible and Affordable Healthcare for Everyone

Texas is facing a healthcare crisis that's hitting our communities hard. Currently Texans spend more on healthcare than 45 other states. Meanwhile, our health outcomes rank equally low. The maternal mortality rate in Texas is a national embarrassment, especially for Black women and rural Texans. Nearly half our counties are maternity care deserts where pregnant women travel over 30 miles for care. Children make up almost 75% of Texas Medicaid enrollees, and families caring for kids with special needs are exhausted from fighting a system they depend on to keep their children alive.

What Vikki wants to build:

  • Restoring Full Reproductive Care – All Texans deserve comprehensive reproductive healthcare. The restrictions pushed through in recent years have led to serious complications for Texas women. It's time to restore essential care. [HB 2251]

  • Medicaid Expansion That Makes Sense – Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the nation. By expanding Medicaid, we can ensure more vulnerable Texans get the care they need while bringing billions in federal dollars back to our state. [HB 1423]

  • Tackling the Maternal Healthcare Crisis – We must extend postpartum Medicaid coverage, address the shortage of providers in rural areas, and work to reduce the alarmingly high maternal mortality rates that disproportionately affect Black women.

  • Expanded Mental Health Resources – Texans struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other conditions deserve support. We've made progress expanding treatment options, but there's much more to do. [HB 1537]

  • Protecting Children's Healthcare – Proposed Medicaid cuts would devastate families caring for children with special healthcare needs. Vikki will stand against any attempt to take away these vital services that children depend on.
