Located west of Austin, Dripping Springs is called the "Gateway to the Hill Country". It is a slower-growing area with highly acclaimed schools in a beautiful, hilly, country setting. In 2010, most area residents were thrilled to get a new HEB right in the heart of Dripping Springs, along with a new Home Depot.
The older neighborhoods typically feature 1+ acre lot sizes. There are a few newer developments that have smaller, city-size lots, but for the most part, people move to Dripping Springs for the acreage, the views and slow pace. Many custom builders in Dripping Springs have embraced the green building movement, and you’ll find more homes with water harvesting here than anywhere else in Austin. You'll also find more equestrians than golfers in Dripping Springs – there are a number of horse stables and many properties are allowed to keep one horse per acre, but you won't find golf courses in Dripping Springs. Nearby is a smaller town called Driftwood, where you'll find similar homes in between Dripping Springs and Wimberley.
